Easter: Walk Between the Trees

Under the Trees is an Easter experience for both children and adults. Join a guided spring walk through the monastery landscape, where we pause several times to listen, draw, and experience the trees in a sensory way

Indoors at the monastery, you can continue the Easter holiday in the new exhibition Øje for landskab (Eye for Landscape), where you can fold paper birds within the exhibition.

Choose between two guided spring walks: a shorter route for children aged 4–7 and their families, or a slightly longer route for adults and older children.

Spring Walks for Young and Old in the Monastery Grounds

On our guided spring walks Under the Trees, we follow a route through the monastery grounds around Esrum Kloster & Møllegård.

You can choose between two walks:

  • A spring walk designed for young children aged 4–7 and their families. This route is shorter in distance and duration (under 1 kilometre and approximately 30–40 minutes).
  • A spring walk for adults and older children, covering a slightly longer route and allowing us to explore the landscape together (1.5 kilometres, approximately 1–1.5 hours).

Along the way, we pause at selected trees, where different species offer sensory experiences and small surprises. Here, you can make bark prints from the ridged trunk of a maple, paint with ink extracted from the gnarled branches of an oak, and experiment with flower prints from the spring blossoms growing at the trees’ roots.

Along the way, our guide reads passages by cultural geographer Emmy Laura Perez Fjalland, written especially for the spring walks. Her words offer food for thought and new ways to sense the essence of the trees—and our connection to them

Easter Activities Indoors at Esrum Kloster

Combine the spring walk with various Easter activities indoors at Esrum Kloster.

Experience the new exhibition Øje for landskab (Eye for Landscape), which explores the landscape around the monastery. Here, both children and adults can also immerse themselves in creative activities inspired by the trees we encounter on the spring walk.

Fold paper birds inspired by the species that live in the monastery’s trees and let them take up residence in the exhibition’s communal tree. We have templates of varying difficulty, so both little hands and more experienced fingers can join in. You can also work with sound and drawing to give shape to the impressions you’ve gathered along the way: What does spring sound like? How does birdsong look when expressed through lines and colors?

The indoor activities are open and flexible—you can join them before or after the spring walk and take as much time as you like. There’s room for calm, reflection, and creativity during the Easter holiday.

Also visit the Natural Playground, the Mølle Café, and the Monastery Shop.

Spend a whole day at Esrum Kloster & Møllegård this Easter. In addition to your spring walk Under the Trees, children and the young at heart can enjoy our natural playground, where balance trails, tree trunks, and the zip line invite outdoor play in the heart of nature.

Also take a look at the Monastery Shop, where the shelves are filled with carefully selected items rooted in nature, history, and monastic life. Here you’ll find delicious delicacies, fragrant creams, and plenty of wool—perhaps something for your Easter table or a small gift to take home?

When hunger or a sweet craving strikes, the Mølle Café is ready with lunch dishes, coffee, and cakes in a cozy setting. Enjoy a delicious meal or a good cup of coffee with views of the monastery grounds, which have framed the day’s experiences.
