In the mystery game 'The Miller's Daughter's Secret' you will work together as a real detective family.
The mystery game is designed for children ages 6 and up. The game can be completed in about an hour.

The game is designed for families with children in elementary school and older. Adults can help the children read the riddles aloud and solve them as they play. - Can younger siblings come along?
Yes, there are various little activities along the way that younger siblings can easily help with and have a lot of fun doing - Do children need to be accompanied by an adult?
Yes, children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the entire game. The experience is designed so that children and adults solve the puzzles together as a real detective family. Therefore, separate tickets for children are not sold. - How hard is the game—and can we get help?
The game challenges both children and adults. If you get stuck along the way, our facilitators are ready to help with clues that can guide you further through the puzzle game. - How long does it take?
It takes at least an hour to complete - Do we need to buy tickets in advance?
No, that’s not necessary. You can buy tickets at our store at the shop when you arrive. - Can we start whenever we want?
Yes, but we don’t recommend starting the game after 3:00 p.m., since it takes at least an hour to complete - Is the activity accessible by stroller or wheelchair?
In some outdoor areas, the surface can make it difficult to navigate with a stroller or wheelchair. An accessible elevator is available inside Esrum Watermill
Take the whole family on a scavenger hunt
Rumor has it that we found an old diary at Esrum Watermill.
The diary belonged to Anna, the miller’s daughter. She lived at Esrum Watermill in the late 1800s with her family. There, she conducted secret experiments with water and its powers. Her ideas were completely new and far ahead of their time—but because she was both a child and a girl, not many people took her thoughts seriously back then. Fortunately, those days are long gone.
Now we need your help to find out what Anna discovered. In the mystery game *The Miller’s Daughter’s Secret*, the whole family becomes part of the story as you follow the clues in Anna’s diary, solve the puzzles, and try to uncover her secret invention.
Here, both children and adults will need curiosity, keen eyes, and good ideas. Maybe the children will spot a clue that the adults have overlooked—or maybe it won’t be until you work together that all the pieces fall into place.
The mystery game is designed as a shared family experience. Together, you can look forward to a day filled with mysteries, clues, and secrets at the old watermill.

- Explore Eye for Landscape
Visit the exhibition Eye for Landscape inside the monastery, where you can explore, sense and learn more about the landscape around Esrum Monastery. Take the Landscape Bag outside and try the small, creative exercises and activities that invite both children and adults to see the landscape with new eyes. - Use your body on the nature playground
At the nature playground, children of all ages can climb, balance, zip along on the cable car and play in the Middle Ages. There is plenty of room to use their bodies and imagination. - Have lunch at the Mill Café
When you need a break, you can settle in at Mill Cafe and enjoy lunch, coffee, or something sweet. Here you can recharge and talk about the day’s clues—and about who was actually the family’s sharpest detective - Find a souvenir at the store
