The Secret of the White Monks
4th-6th grade
Do you have what it takes to become part of the secret lodge?
The white monks
The monks at Esrum Monastery were called the White Monks. When they lived here in the Middle Ages, the monastery was much larger than today. The monks lived in a closed community at the monastery. They rarely traveled outside the monastery and did not invite people in from outside.
Some of the White Monks here at the monastery were also part of the White Monks Lodge.
A lodge you might also become a part of. That is, if you pass the 7 tests and discover the secret that the monks guard.
A day as a monk at Esrum Monastery and Mill Farm
People have always been captivated by secrets, and there have always been people who believed or were believed by others to have special knowledge or insight into the great mysteries of life.
Dressed in monk robes, we go to the monastery for prayer. In the writing workshop we will make our own ink and see if we have what it takes to be admitted to the Lodge of the White Monks. With the help of puzzles, we will solve tasks both inside the monastery and in the surrounding nature that will eventually lead us to the monks’ secret.
