Go on a mystery hunt in Esrum Watermill

An old diary. An amazing invention. And clues that only the sharpest minds can follow. The diary was that of Anna, the miller’s daughter. She lived in Esrum water mill in the late 1800s with her family. Anna conducted secret experiments and tests with water and its powers. Her ideas were completely new and ahead of their time – but because she was both a child and a girl, not many people took her ideas seriously at the time. Fortunately, that’s all in the past.

This fall, try an exciting puzzle game filled with mysteries and historical clues that Anna wrote in her diary. Solve puzzles, follow clues and rediscover the secrets behind the mill’s roar.

Together you’ll get closer to history, nature and a girl with a special eye for invention.

Can you crack the code and reveal what invention the miller’s daughter’s diary was hiding?

Get behind the monastery walls

Step inside Esrum Monastery and experience history with both eyes and ears:

Listen to the sound of the monks praying and see the large time wheel that shows how the monks’ lives were organized by prayer and work. Put on your VR glasses and see the monastery as it looked in the Middle Ages. Explore the monastery and immerse yourself in the stories of the past that arouse both wonder and curiosity.

You can also play the Reformation Game; an interactive experience where you are put in the middle of the great showdown in Danish history during the Reformation, and where you have to make choices with major consequences. An educational, playful and thought-provoking journey into Denmark’s religious past – perfect for an autumn day with the family.

Play on at the nature playground

If you still have energy left, the nature playground is just around the corner. Here, the children can explore a medieval play world with a manor house, marketplace, cable car, gentle swing, herring barrels and farmer’s pigs – all surrounded by the beautiful autumn landscape of Esrum.

Enjoy the golden colors while you sip a child-friendly lunch in the cozy Mill Café. And if you feel like it, you can end the day with a browse in the atmospheric shop, full of flavor, history and little temptations for both children and adults.
