We tell the story of Esrum Abbey in a way that’s accessible to both children and adults on Saturdays and Sundays every weekend. Buy a ticket at the shop when you arrive and meet us at the abbey.
Children's Tour: Brother Stefan's First Day
- The children’s tour begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, every weekend except during school vacation weeks
- The children’s tour is for children ages 6 and up
- The children’s tour lasts about 20 minutes
- The children’s tour takes place in the monastery cellar
- Children under 18 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by adults
- No registration is required for the children’s tour
Step down into the vaulted monastery cellar and hear the story of Brother Stefan. He has just arrived at Esrum Monastery—perhaps a little excited, perhaps a little nervous. Together, we’ll follow him on his first day as a monk.
We sit close together in the semi-darkness as the story takes shape and our senses come alive: Feel the soft beeswax in your hands and breathe in the scent of the herbs in the monastery garden. After the story, we go up to the Abbot’s Hall, where we sit quietly and listen to the monks’ singing

- The adult tour is intended for an adult audience
- The adult tour lasts about 20 minutes
- The adult tour takes place in the monastery courtyard
- No registration is required for the adult tour
