Food for the many celebrations of Christmas
Taste and buy delicacies for the many celebrations of Christmas At the market you can embark on a wealth of delicacies brought directly from European monasteries. Handpicked crafts
The Christmas market at Esrum Kloster & Møllegård is something very special. Here we celebrate the ‘Crafted by hand’: you meet the people behind all the goods and gifts we buy for Christmas. All stall holders are carefully selected and have put their heart and soul into everything they showcase at the market. Find everything from Christmas decorations, glass, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, soaps, baskets and much more in their stalls.
Without food and drink, the hero is useless
You won’t go home hungry from the Christmas market! The Christmas café serves delicious meals that can be washed down with freshly tapped monastery beer. And if you’re not full, you can visit outdoor food stalls serving quick – but delicious – food, hot drinks and sweets.
At the Christmas market you will meet:
Copenhagen Crepe: Pancakes, both sweet and savory
Den krøllede kaffenode: Coffee drinks, tea, chai latte, hot chocolate, Irish coffee and Lumumba
Lindhart: Hot lunch dishes and sweets
Stenholm: Deer grill sausages with bread and sandwiches with pan-fried deer meat
Sølvskeen: Mexican stew (vegetarian)
Pussers Popcorn: Roasted almonds, hot chocolate and mulled wine
And of course Møllecaféen.
Christmas fun for the kids
Christmas is of course a celebration for children, so we have a host of family activities for you to enjoy together: As something new, the North Zealand Children’s Choir will sing Christmas on November 24 and December 1 at 13:00 and 14:00. You can also make beautiful nature decorations and go on a fun Christmas treasure hunt. Children can also decorate little Christmas houses in the creative workshop at the social enterprise Kilden and cuddle their chickens. Take this year’s Christmas photo in our photo booths and burn off some energy on the nature playground’s cable car. You can also try our VR glasses inside the monastery exhibition.
Frequently asked questions about the Christmas market
When is the Christmas market?
We have a Christmas market on November 23 – 24 and November 30 – December 1 from 10:00-17:00.
How much does the ticket cost?
Adults cost DKK 65 and children under 18 are free.
Where do I buy a ticket?
Tickets can be purchased at the entrance when you arrive.
What payment options are available?
We take cash, debit cards and mobilepay – so there’s plenty of choice on every shelf!
Can I take public transportation to the Christmas market?
Yes! And you don’t have to find a parking space, so it’s a really smart way to get to the Christmas market. You can take either train or bus from Copenhagen via Helsingør or Hillerød.
What are the parking conditions like?
We have a free parking lot with entrance from Frederiksværksvej (route number 205) GPS address: Frederiksværksvej 179X. NOTE: We are simply delighted that so many people support our Christmas market every year. But with so many guests, our parking lot fills up quickly most of the day. Therefore, please arrive early and park nearby and via the public parking lots in Esrum By.
It is not possible to park in Klostergade.
What are the disability conditions like?
Wheelchair users can access almost the entire area; the monastery itself is difficult to access. If you have a companion card, you can enter for free.
Can I get around with my stroller?
Yes you can! But there is no space for prams inside the buildings. You’ll also find a changing station in the disabled toilet in Klostergården.
Can I bring my dog?
Of course we do! But please note that your four-legged friend is unfortunately not allowed in our indoor areas and must be on a leash.
Can I reserve a table in Møllecaféen?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to reserve a table in Møllecaféen during our Christmas market weekends.
How many stallholders are there at the Christmas market?
There are approximately 70 different stallholders each weekend. Some come both weekends, others just one – so there are new items to get on board every weekend.
Can I experience Esrum Monastery, Esrum Water Mill and the nature playground at the Christmas market?
You certainly can! The exhibitions are accessible with a ticket to the Christmas market and the nature playground is freely accessible to children around the clock.
I can't wait! Is there anything else I need to know?
We sure do! But yes: dress for the weather. Much of the Christmas market is outside in our beautiful natural surroundings.
I have several questions. Where can I turn to?
