Lunch for all ages
Grab lunch at Møllecaféen: On the menu you’ll find a variety of open sandwiches and special dishes for the little ones. Everything is predominantly organic and homemade. The bread is baked on site, the salmon is smoked in the smoker in the café courtyard and the mayonnaise is whipped by hand. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth; you’ll find a large selection of cakes in the showcase, wine, abbey beer and juices from local farms.
A socio-economic eatery
Møllecaféen is run by the social economy company Fonden Kilden, which helps young people and citizens with special needs.
Imagine a place where no one has to struggle with being different. A place where everyone is seen as a whole person with more opportunities than challenges. Such a place is Kilden. Through education and employment, young people develop in a way that turns special needs into special skills of the kind that businesses can use.
In Kilden’s kitchen program, students and staff help out in the Mill Café, and you will definitely meet them behind the counter. The green line grows herbs and crops that are also used in the Mill Café.
A human cause
It’s no coincidence that Møllecaféen has a socio-economic profile. Esrum Kloster & Møllegård has a long tradition of helping people move on in life: Before the buildings were restored in the late 90s and opened to the public, they have been home to many different people. The monastery has not only housed monks, royalty or colonels; it has also been a child welfare center and county office, a nature school and a post office. And before that, medieval monks interceded for all of humanity for 200 years.
“As an education and employment service, it’s important that our teaching and daily life are business-oriented. And that’s what it is to have your daily life in the Mill Café.”
Dorte Meldgaard, Director, Fonden Kilden
