At Esrum Kloster & Møllegårds Christmas market 28. – Nov. 29th. & Dec. 5 – 6, 2026 we focus on the artisan behind the Christmas gifts. Apply to become a stall holder before May 17
The special thing about the Christmas market at Esrum Monastery
Hundreds of years ago, when Esrum Monastery functioned as an actual monastery, the monks lived by the motto‘bed & work’. Therefore, they worked in the gardens, in the brewery (where beer was made), in the brick kiln or in the kitchen. In short, they used their hands to produce the materials and food to be self-sufficient. Today, there are still monasteries in Europe where nuns and monks produce jams, soaps, Trappist beer and many other things.
The tradition of ‘The Work of the Hand’ lives on. We want to celebrate this with the Christmas market: whether we’re talking crafts or food, there will always be a person behind the product who has put their heart and soul into it. It’s about preserving a craft tradition and passing it on to the future.

Criteria for stall holders
- We only rent stall spaces to you if you manufacture or design your own products (or in collaboration with others). If you are an importer or selling on behalf of a company, we say no thanks.
- Your products must be of high quality and may also be sustainable. The latter is not a requirement, but we prioritize sustainable goods first.
- We do not rent pitches to food producers
Types of handicrafts
Examples that have previously been on the Christmas market are Christmas decorations, paper decorations, glass, ceramics, willow, wood products, home decor, ceramics, wreaths, leather, drawings/illustrations, jewelry, soaps, knitwear and much more.
Pitches
We rent out small and large pitches in Esrum Water Mill and in a large circus tent.
Esrum Watermill
The watermill is a two-story building full of history and atmosphere with mill wheels, exposed beams and old grinders.
The watermill is heated, but due to its age, it cannot be heated to room temperature. There is also high humidity as there is still water running underneath the building.
Large circus tent
At the end of a paved courtyard, surrounded by thatched wings, we set up a 250 square meter circus tent with canvas cloth, which we decorate with lights and greenery. There is a floor and heating, but the tent cannot be heated to room temperature. Since the tent is located outside, it can be very airy depending on the weather.
