Activities at Esrum Abbey and Esrum Møllegård.

A touch of Paradise… Still today a part of the earlier so mighty Esrum Abbey remains, preserved in beautiful natural surroundings north of Esrum Lake. A visit to Esrum Abbey and Møllegård is a journey of discovery into the cultural, natural and religious universe. A unique possibility for peace and absorption, but also for exciting experiences, exhibitions and a varied cultural programme.

 Esrum Abbey

Cistercian abbey founded in 1151. Culture option, permanent exhibition on the Cistercian order and on Jon Jonsen Lille, the Kings knight at Esrum.

 Admission and shop

The museum shop with medieval specialities, books and toys. Ticket sale and ice cream. Visa, American Express and Mastercard accepted.

 Brother Rus’ Cellar

Restaurant in the fine vaulted abbey cellar.  There is also a café in the abbey courtyard in the summertime.

 Jonsborg

Be a knight for a day in Jon’s castle. The story of Jon and activities for youngsters.

 Abbey garden

Experience more than 100 different medicinal plants from the middle ages. Display of medicinal herbs.

 Marking of the foundation

A part of the abbeys foundation is marked on the grounds. See the original well.

 Path to Daniel’s Spring

There is a short path to the holy spring with its source in Grib Forest.

 Abbey meadow

Rich variety of plants and animals adapted to life in the wetlands. Frederiksborg horses grass here in the summer.

 Esrum Møllegård

Nature centre.  Become familiar with the local animal and plant life. Teaching and course centres.

 Picnic and play

Area for picnics. Activities for youngsters. Jumping, climbing or water games.

 Mill dam

The dam between Esrum Stream and the water mill. Stream and pond are artificially made in the time of Christian IV in the 1600’s.

 Esrum Water Mill

 Feel, smell and taste the mill’s history! Original water mill built by Christian IV in 1605.

 Walk

Take a walk in the area. Choose the short walk in the vicinity, the medium long walk, which leads you through the forest, or take a longer walk around Esrum Lake.

By Esrum Møllegård driveway from Frederiksværksvej. Parking in Klostergade is not permitted.

Adults 40.00 kr., children 20.00kr, family ticket 100.00 kr.

Groups over 10 people 30.00 kr. per person.
